April 30th - Luray Caverns

The Luray Caverns are spectacular!!! Not as colorful as some, but the formations were most intriguing. Halfway through the tour, they take you to this wonderful organ which plays music by hitting various formations throughout the cavern. I took tons of photos, most of which turned out great, but too many to display here. I've just shown a few different ones, but if you are interested in the more technical aspects of the cavern, such as names of formations, etc., the Caverns have a really good website at http://www.luraycaverns.com/
The water was totally still, and it makes it hard to see that what you are looking at is a mirror image of the roof of the cavern. When you are standing there looking at it, it really, really, really, looks like you could reach out and touch the tips of the stalactites in the water!!! (Except of course, they would be stalagmites if they were real!!!!)
These formations looked like hanging fabric of some kind!!!! Totally amazing place!
They called these "fried egg" formations. I wonder why???? Sunny side up, anyone????
Somewhere they said how much the total of all the coins they pulled from this little pond in the cavern every year. I don't remember quite how much it was, but it was several thousands of dollars. They donate it to charity.
This is the only color in the Cavern besides the oranges and golds. Beautiful place. Well worth the stop.
