We decided to get brave, put some addresses into "Maggie", the TomTom GPS, and head out to explore some of Memphis. As I really like looking at the Victorian mansions in different cities, I inputted the address of a couple of houses that were open for tours. So off we went, following Maggie's directions. Ok, about half a mile from the RV park, I told C to ignore her! She picked the freeway, and I wanted to go at street level. I think we should have listened to Maggie!!!!! We drove through some PRETTY disolute neighborhoods, but eventually wound up at the "Victorian District". Ok..... maybe Memphis has a different idea of a "district" than I do!!! We basically found three houses! Maybe a couple of others could be called mansions, but they were in bad need of repair! The ones we saw were beautiful, though.
After the Victorian District, Memphis style, it really didn't surprise me that the "Palace" wasn't really a palace at all!!! Actually it was an incredible building that had been built by a very rich man but he never even got to sleep in the house! It was turned over to the city of Memphis who turned it into an incredible museum. Our trip back to the RV park was almost as exciting as the trip out.... we got "misplaced" a couple of times, but finally made it back "home".
