April 2nd. On our way.

We headed out on the next phase of our trip, getting a nice early start on the morning of April 2nd. We put ourselves in the trusted care of Harold and Joyce and their beautiful new Tiffen Phaeton diesel motor coach.
Our route took us out on Hwy 60 through Globe, AZ. As always, this is a beautiful drive. People who are familiar with the route we were taking thought we were being quite brave, tackling the hilly, curvy roads, but then..... they weren't with us on the roads in Mexico!!!!! Not much of anything scares us anymore!

This route took us through the Salt River Canyon, which is spectacular to say the least. Tricky driving too!! But well worth the effort when you get to the canyon itself. The road down into the canyon has several switchbacks. I tried to get some pictures from the top, but wasn't quick enough to really catch it. I did get a picture from the bridge deck, but it doesn't really do justice to the trip down. When we got to the bottom, though, we noticed a peculiar odor.......hmmmm.....hot brakes!!!! Not that it proved to be a problem, as we spent an hour walking across the old bridge, viewing the tables full of Indian pottery and jewelry for sale, and just admiring the rugged beauty of the canyon itself.
While I was taking the picture of Clive watching the river, he was watching some river rafters shooting the rapids just before the bridge. Unfortunately, I missed that, but I did get a shot of them after the rapids!
