Woke up to the sound of the diesel next door turning on at 6:23 AM. Harold and Joyce were on their way to Red Bay, Georgia. As we only had less than a three hour drive to Memphis, we had decided to sleep in so that we didn't arrive too early at Graceland RV Park.
I had to do the navigating for the first time since we left Gold Canyon!!! Previously, Harold and Joyce were leading us over territory that was familiar to them, so I got to snooze, play computer games, knit, and chat with Joyce over the walkie-talkies the whole trip so far!!! Talk about luxury. Of course, we had a very easy drive today, so my talents were not stretched to any great degree! Along with "Maggie" (the TomTom) and Streets and Trips, we managed to find our way very well, except for a little blip at the end where Streets and Trips had us turning down the wrong street! Man I hate that!!! But as Maggie was disagreeing with S@T and the address said Elvis Presley Blvd, I got C to stop and I went into the corner store to check with the locals. Yup, we were on the wrong street...half a block from our destination! Maggie - 1 Streets & Trips - 0
It wasn't too windy, and the drive was really very pleasant. There are still many areas where the floods haven't receeded yet, and you can sure tell that they had a LOT of rain! The only other thing that happened today was that the top came unlatched on the Miata!!! A semi-truck driver tooted at us as he was passing and pointed to the rear of the motorhome. Clive looked in the backup mirror and there was the soft top on the convertible--half way up and flapping in the wind!!! In almost 110,000 kms of towing, that has never happened before!!! And believe me, we have driven through some horrible winds towing that little car. Pulling over to the side on I-40 isn't the easiest of things, but of necessity, we had to do so. It appeared that it had only just popped open, so fortunately for us, no damage occured. We were sure grateful to that truck driver! We were almost to our destination, so "paranoid Evelyn" didn't have to worry herself to death for too long! I'll save that for the trip to Natchez!!!!

Crossing the Mississippi River into Tennessee

The flooding was extensive and it seemed like every creek and river added to the problem.
This was a side road into a farmer's home. If the flood was in recession, I guess he would be ok, but if it hadn't peaked yet, it looked as if he wouldn't be getting into his home for much longer!! I just hope that wherever his house was, it was on higher ground.
Water, water everywhere!!!!
After we crossed the Mississippi, we could see where the side roads onto the freeway were well under water on the right hand side of the road, next to the river.

Chico took it all in stride from his "back seat driver's" position. He had it all under control!
After settling in and having a late lunch, we wandered over to the Graceland Crossing Plaza and checked out the tour options for Graceland. We'll do that tour in the morning and then look for other adventures in the afternoon.

We're looking forward to seeing the photos of Graceland. How do you have time to do all this sightseeing AND write it all up???
You know me.... I never sleep!!!
