April 16th - Natchez Trace - Jackson to Tupelo

A beautiful drive on a beautiful day. Heading to Tupelo today on the second stage of our Natchez Trace journey.
The dogwood trees were plentiful and in full bloom along the way.
Chico finds this ride totally lacking in stress!!!!!!
Let's see what it is that Mom and Dad enjoy so much about these strolls!!!! Hmmm?? Very interesting!
A member of the troup that has previously been neglected in our blog--our Winnebago Chieftain!!
The Cypress/Tupelo swamp. What an amazing place!!! The information sign says "There are alligators in the swamp. They look like submerged logs with eyes."  Although we didn't really see one, Evelyn was spooked.
They call the little bumps "knees". They grow up from the roots of the trees.

A little beaver dam.

The second Tupelo tree swamp we stopped at. One of the interesting things about this swamp was that it was fed by a living stream which will eventually deposit enough silt and earth in the swamp that it will eradicate the swamp completely!
Because of the fresh flow of water into this swamp, the colors in the water are completely different from the first swamp.... clearer so that you can see the colors from below the surface.
Another beaver dam.
The different vegetation colors in the water make for a remarkable sight.
Beautiful swamp flowers.

When you "stop and smell the flowers", you see amazing things. This beautiful butterfly flew by as we were walking on the trail. It sat there for a few minutes opening and closing it's wings, and giving us quite a color show.
